Nelson

Here's how we got Nelson: We've talked getting a dog for a while already. I didn't really want to commit at first- but if a dog then it had to be a friendly, never barking, never agressive, children friendly, happy and house trained cute little dog. Eric wanted something more "manly" (grrrr) but agreed on the other criteria. He did a little online search for places that rescue dogs and find good homes for them. FURS came up and Eric typed in our criteria. Nelson's picture popped right up. We thought he was a nice smallish but still manly enough Beagle. We decided to visit him on Saturday- FURS "showed off" the animals on Cary Street almost every weekend. As we came near the place with all the dogs we could spot Nelson immediately. He greeted Eric and smooched him for at least 10 minutes. Eric was in love and I was jealous. But as I saw the two of them cuddling and "caressing" each other I overcame my suspiciousness and fell in love with the picture. He was very friendly- not only to us but to everybody. A few sneak hugs later and soaken wet with slobber we went home to talk about Nelson.....of course we did not talk long...actally I think we both kinda decided in the car home already. We called FURS the next Monday and arranged a meeting to do the paperwork. Nelson came to visit us first and sniffed the "new" place out. FURS always checks out the potential pet owner's places before moving on. A week later (August 18, 2006) we picked up Nelson at a shelter facility. But before we could take him home with us we had to stay for an hour of "new pet owner's school". It was fun and instructive. After that we took him to Petsmart to choose a dogbed. There we found out that he has a problem with smooth, shiny and slippery floor coverings. It still takes a lot of convincing to get him across unknown floors.
Finally home and new dogparents we talked about education- we wanted to be on the same page of course. We were the happiest new dog parents and looked forward to spending every day with our new best friend! We love you little Nelson!!!!
